Overview
The Department of Musculoskeletal Disorders at BVVS College of Physiotherapy is dedicated to promoting excellence in physiotherapy education, clinical practice, and research related to musculoskeletal and orthopaedic rehabilitation. It provides comprehensive care for patients with joint, muscle, ligament, tendon, and bone-related conditions through a scientific and evidence-based approach. The department focuses on: Accurate assessment and diagnosis of musculoskeletal dysfunctions. Restoring functional independence and improving quality of life. Integrating manual therapy, electrotherapy, and therapeutic exercise for optimal recovery. Enhancing clinical decision-making through advanced learning modules.
Teaching Programmes The department actively contributes to both undergraduate (BPT) and postgraduate (MPT – Musculoskeletal & Sports) physiotherapy programmes. Teaching methodologies emphasize a balance between theoretical understanding and hands-on clinical application. Core areas covered: Human Kinesiology and Biomechanics Orthopaedic Physiotherapy and Manual Therapy Techniques Exercise Prescription and Strength Training Sports Rehabilitation Principles Post-operative Rehabilitation and Ergonomics Learning is enriched through: Case-based learning and demonstrations. Use of audiovisual aids, models, and simulation labs. Seminars, journal reviews, and interdepartmental discussions with orthopaedic and sports medicine units. 🏥 Clinical Training Students receive intensive clinical exposure in orthopaedic wards and physiotherapy outpatient departments within the S. Nijalingappa Medical College & HSK Hospital and Research Centre. They are trained to: Conduct detailed musculoskeletal assessments. Design and implement individualized rehabilitation programs. Employ techniques such as joint mobilization, manipulation, taping, and electrotherapeutic modalities. Assist in post-operative care for orthopaedic and trauma patients. Students are continuously guided by experienced clinicians and faculty through case presentations and performance evaluations.
About The Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy Unit serves as a comprehensive rehabilitation center for patients suffering from trauma, arthritis, sports injuries, post-surgical conditions, and chronic musculoskeletal disorders. The focus is on pain reduction, functional restoration, and preventing disability through active participation and individualized therapy plans. 🛏️ Inpatient Services The inpatient physiotherapy team provides daily rehabilitation to orthopaedic and trauma patients admitted to HSK Hospital. Services include: Early mobilization after fracture fixation and joint replacement surgeries. Post-operative rehabilitation for spinal and limb surgeries. Physiotherapy management of polytrauma and ICU cases. Coordination with orthopaedic surgeons and nursing teams for patient progress. 🚪 Outpatient Services The outpatient clinic offers comprehensive physiotherapy care for: Neck and back pain (cervical & lumbar spondylosis) Arthritis, tendonitis, bursitis Sports injuries (ligament sprain, meniscal tears) Post-fracture stiffness Postural correction and ergonomic counseling Modalities used: Electrotherapy: TENS, IFT, Ultrasound, SWD, LASER therapy Manual therapy: Joint mobilization, soft tissue release, muscle energy techniques Exercise therapy: Strengthening, stretching, proprioceptive and balance training 🕐 Working Hours Monday to Saturday: 9:00 AM – 4:30 PM Sunday & Public Holidays: Closed Emergency care available in coordination with the Orthopaedic Department.
